Meet The Author

“Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages” (TESOL) is a basic course on teaching English as a second or foreign language as a second language. This program comprises basic ideas, methods, and tools for teaching English to speakers of other languages. The program mainly targets those aspirants who are already teaching English to non-English speakers or are willing to become English teachers to teach it as a second or a foreign language.

Earning a TESOL credential is definitely a valuable asset for teachers looking to enter the ESL (English as a Second Language) field. It is basically a flexible certificate that enhances a teacher’s chances of being hired in most foreign countries. It can be said that there is absolutely no limit to what you can do as a TESOL-certified educator. Once you’ve decided on the kind of students you want to teach, the work environment you prefer, and your teaching career goals, it will be easier for you to choose from the many types of jobs out there.

The world scenario has changed drastically after the COVID-19 era, and it has more importantly highlighted the need to speak English to most of the world population. So, there is a never-ending need for qualified English language teachers, and the need has never been greater around the world.

Close your eyes, spin the globe, and choose a teaching location anywhere in the world with a TESOL certification and the right level of preparation. In the event that your finger did not end up in a very large body of water, you may be able to find work as an English language instructor for people who speak languages other than English. One can get jobs instructing English to those who speak various languages, either online or in person.

There are a number of institutions and universities across the world (particularly in Europe and America) that are conducting certificate, diploma, and degree programs in TESOL. These programs are quite costly for Asian and Indian aspirants. To provide them with a cost-effective and impactful program within India, VOCADEMICS has designed and launched its own “130 Hours TESOL Certification Program”. The program is as effective as it is from any of the American and/or European institutes. It is completely in line with the norms set by world-class TESOL program providers. Before launching this program, VOCADEMICS did an in-depth study of various top-level institutes’ curriculums and standards followed by them. Also, VOCADEMICS became a member of both the “International TESOL Association” (USA) and the “International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language” (IATEFL), UK, to give its TESOL certificate a lot of value.

The course is intended to be taught online or offline and can be completed with 130 hours of in-class teaching and 10 to 20 hours of practical training. The students are expected to have some basic knowledge and acquaintance with a few linguistic concepts and terms. But even students who have never studied linguistics before might find this book useful because I’ve done my best to explain these ideas in very simple language and with lots of pictures and examples.

The entire course has been divided into 5 different modules to keep the program simple yet effective and meet the norms of global requirements. A range of topics, from different learning environments to various teaching methods, resource planning, lesson planning, grammar, and phonetics, have been covered to enable future teachers to perform in a competitive environment. A special feature has been compiled at the end of the book to help students land the job of their dreams.

Despite my best efforts to make this textbook a complete resource in and of itself, it cannot be denied that I am missing some points here and there. I’m asking all teachers and students to let me know what’s missing so I can add it to future editions of this book.

Even though the TESOL course has to be taught by experienced and qualified teachers, I strongly suggest that students attend international TESOL conferences and read the most recent blogs on our website (https://www.voacademics.in) to keep their knowledge and skills up to date.

I’m sure this book will be able to fill the vacuum in the Indian and Asian world of TESOL teaching, and all the teachers and students will find it as a great resource and an aid to their studies.
