The role of motivation in the teaching learning process is very important. Human behaviour is complex and peoples are naturally curious. Therefore, instructional designers should meet the challenges of designing instruction assisted by motivation because it is of paramount importance to students success. Students work longer, harder and with much vigor and intensity when they are motivated. In other words motivation helps individual overcome inertia and work with much interest and spirit.
Students motivation has to do with students desire to participate in the teaching learning process. But it also concerns the reasons or goals that underlie their involvement in academic activities. Educationist are categorical that motivation to learn is characterized by long term, quality involvement in learning and commitment in the process of learning.
Motivation, both intrinsic and extrinsic is a key factor in the success of students at all stages of their education and teachers can play a pivotal role in providing and encouraging that motivation in their students. Of course that’s much easier said than done, as all students are motivated differently and it takes time and a lot of efforts to learn to get a classroom full of kids enthusiastic about learning, working hard and pushing themselves to excel.
The present book is a outcome of hard work in the field level to find out the motivational strategies used by teachers to generate interest among students for better academic achievement.
