Kolkata Dreams – is a both a historical reflection and a chronicle of our times through the eyes of a city dweller who loves the villages of India. Of the twenty-four essays and thirteen short stories published in this edition there are writings on soccer, the life of footballers, historically important personalities, obituaries, and science fiction, five thematic translations, spirituality, the epic Mahabharata, post independent political event, and Facebook based writing, technical writings and style of film making, etc. There is also one semi- autobiographical fiction. Almost all of these writings- spread across a wide canvas- were written while the author lived and worked in the city of Kolkata. The objective of the book was to bring together many streams of thought that represent this culturally enriched city which once was one of the intellectual beacons of the orient in science, literature, spirituality and human activity. The author through the cultivation of those themes and time periods has attempted to re- discover and represent to the reader the essential spirit of humanity that embodies Kolkata.
