Since the time immemorial, the plants are used for the human welfare.  India is rich in medicinal plant diversity which is distributed in different geographical, environmental conditions and associated tribal & folk knowledge systems. The tribal people mostly depend on forests for their livelihood and up to 70% of the rural population still depends on traditional medicine as a primary healthcare source. Plants are the essential source of therapeutic drugs which play an important role in the preparation of traditional medicines. The majority of rural people in Indian sub-continents uses plant-based traditional medicines for health problems. The dependence of the rural community on plant-based herbal medication is common because of cheaper, easy availability, the simplicity of their applications.

Santhal pargana is the abode of Santhal and Paharia tribe, beside several other tribes too. Ethnobotanically Important Plants Associated with Religious and Tourist Spots of Santal Paragana, Jharkhand has been compiled to know the ethnobotanicallly important plants found in and around the religios and tourists spots of Santhal Pargana as because these areas are visited most by the people. And the plants of these areas are prone to decrease its number. So first to know the plants for its uses and second to conserve these plants as well these areas have been selected.
