Welcome to the exploration of a crucial aspect of every student’s journey— the decision-making process that shapes their higher education choices. This book delves into the intricate web of factors influencing students as they embark on the path to select both a program and institution for their higher education.
This study was born out of a commitment to understanding the factors that shape students’ choices. We engaged with 2339 students from schools across Kerala, drawing from both CBSE and State Board systems. Through a comprehensive questionnaire survey, we delved into demographics, personal factors, academic performance, infrastructure considerations, and institutional attributes. The goal was to unravel the tapestry of influences that inform the critical decisions made by students.
The outcome of our rigorous data analysis is enlightening — personal, academic, infrastructure, and institutional factors all play equally crucial roles in students’ decision-making processes. These findings carry significant implications for higher education institutions, encouraging them to tailor their offerings to meet the diverse needs of aspiring scholars.
Recognizing the inevitable limitations inherent in any study, we acknowledge the confined geographic scope to the state of Kerala. This book, while shedding light on essential aspects of student decision-making, is a catalyst for future research. We encourage broader investigations that span various districts in Kerala and extend to other states, encompassing the rich diversity of educational landscapes in our country.
