Kavery Nambisan is undoubtedly the most significant of the contemporary Indian women novelists writing in the English language. But she has not received the critical attention she deserves. Though a few articles in some journals and in books are being published and a collection of critical essays on her is edited and published there is no full length study of Kavery Nambisan’s fiction barring by few unpublished theses submitted by scholars on her novels in India and abroad.
The elementary instincts possessed by women all over the world are alike but they differ in their mode of expression under the influence of societal expectations. Literature is the mirror of the existing general norms, conditions and attitudes; it serves as the finest medium to throw precious light upon understanding the serious concerns and considerations pertaining to women. Literature by men on women’s emotional feelings and sufferings abides by the sensible perspective of an outsider’s view in contrast to literature written by women, as it offers the sensitive and sentimental insider’s view. Feminine Sensibility becomes the thematic undercurrent and the main focal point in the unique writings and appealing works of women
