Volleyball has developed into a highly competitive sport which requires a high level of physical, physiological and psychological fitness. The game at a high level of competition requires quicker sudden movements and fast reaction. Volleyball matches have no time limit and matches can last for several hours, if the teams are evenly matched. The author, experienced teacher, coach and Principal in Physical Education College, envisages the need for speed and strength parameters of volleyball players, which are found to be basic requirements for successful play of volleyball.
In making a critical analysis on speed and strength parameters of volleyball players, the author outlined different skill requirements of the game and skill trainings. The finding goes on studying the relationship of fitness parameters like flexibility, muscular endurance, power, aerobic capacity etc. with volleyball players through different training strategies like strength and conditioning practices; strength and conditioning perspectives; power strength and endurance among different competition level; plyometric training for strength training and changes in motor dispositions of volleyball players.
The book categorized the above training influences on speed and strength parameters of offensive players and defensive players. For this purpose, previous researches conducted by experts and researchers in the field are cited in this book to have a comprehensive look on their research findings. This study further attempt to make comparisons of speed and strength parameters gained through different training methods by offensive and defensive volleyball players. Thus, this book form a worthwhile study for physical education teachers, volleyball players and eminent coaches as an effective tool for improving their volleyball playing abilities with optimum level of speed and strength.
