CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME: CHALLENGES AND RESPONSES

Our common home – the Earth, is the only known planet where life exists. The question is why life exists only on this planet and why not anywhere else.Answer to this question is very simple – the climate present on this planet makes life possible on the Earth. Human activities are disturbing the environmental balance of this planet and posing a threat to the very existence of
life on this planet. Changes in natural ecosystems threaten biodiversityworldwide, and have implications for global food production.

Several studies conducted by meteorologists, environmentalists and earth scientists have proved that the atmosphere is getting dangerously warm with each passing year. In recent decades this warming has caused melting of glaciers resulting in a constant rise in the sea level and, it would appear, by an increase of extreme weather events like prolonged summers, extreme cold and excessive rain in a very short period of time. Even if a scientifically determinable cause cannot be assigned to each particular phenomenon, humanity is called to recognize the need for changes in lifestyle, production and consumption, in order to combat this.
