Biomedical waste management is attending special attention now a day due to recent regulations of the biomedical waste (management and handling Rules, 1998). Improper management of biomedical waste can be associated with risks not only to the health workers but also to the patients, communities and their environment. The present study focused on a little survey to assess the quantities and properties of different constituents of wastes, their handling, treatment and disposal methods in different health-care settings. Two Hospitals (one Government and one Private) were surveyed using a field visit and some questionnaire for waste management. This questionnaire was obtained by some graduate students doing their 6th semester project especially on this concern subject under my guidance with the prior permission of the authority. World Health Organization (WHO) states that 85% of hospital wastes are actually non-hazardous, where as 10% are infectious and 5% are non infectious but they are included in hazardous wastes. These wastes will create threat to the public if will not be treated properly since, the healthcare foundations are situated in heart of Cuttack City, Odisha. At present, there is no available information that describes the actual practice of handling the healthcare waste products. The proposed hospital waste management plan is consistent with the biomedical waste (management and handling) (second amendment) Rules, 2000, ministry of environment and forests. This Book describes the assessment report on biomedical waste handling and treatment methods adopted by two important health care units of Cuttack district of Odisha along with the provisions specified in the Biomedical waste management ( Amendment Rules of 2008 and its implementation). This Book contains three chapters on these above three aspects. This first edition of the Book entitled “ Bio- medical waste; collection, disposal, management and legal aspects, case study: Odisha will help our esteem readers, researchers and scientists a clear idea on the Biomedical waste disposal and it’s management as a whole and will help the readers for further research and survey. I trust this book will receive a warm response from the researchers and enthusiastic readers on biomedical waste and its management. Suggestions if any from the beloved readers are cordially invited. I am very much thankful to the Iterative International Publishers for publishing this edition in shortest possible period of time.
