India is a country of myriad castes and religions. In ancient India chaturvarnya (Four castes) existed based on their particular professions. Brahmanas were considered the suoperior caste and sudra of the lowest caste. A fifth caste also existed who were considered as inhumans. They were often called chandalas.
Social reformers made a notable change in the conditions of the lower caste, who were considered untouchables. Gradually their conditions improved. They were considered along with the main stream.
Nadar caste is found in some parts of Kerala and Tamilnadu only. Here I am trying to find out their historical identity and their role in the contemporary society. Particular care has been taken to undertake a true and exhaustive study of the Nadar community.
