THE EFFECTS OF TRADITIONAL GAMES ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

Traditional games are motor activities of leisure and recreation which can have a ritual character. They are part of the universal heritage diversity. They are practiced in an individual or collective manner, deriving from regional or local identity; they are based on rules accepted by a group that organizes competitive or non-competitive activities. Traditional games dispose of a popular character in their practice and in their organization, yet if turned into sport tend to be uniform and institutionalized. The practice of traditional games promotes global health.” (UNESCO, 2009).

Play is the part of human life since from the day of child­hood to adolescent and even may be extended to next stages. But the form of play comprises the methods of physical, mental, psychological or the combination of all above said. The type of game or play chosen by indi­viduals depends upon their generation and availability. In this aspect, among the present day generation, compar­ing to General games, traditional outdoor games and indoor games occupy major space. By keeping this view in mind, the present study has been narrated as the attitude score towards traditional games and academic achievement of students of primary schools.

This research book ‘The effects of traditional games on academic achievement’ focuses on Traditional games that can train a agility, physical strength, courage, agility, skill, and so forth. Some of the more traditional games can describe the cohesiveness, teamwork, togetherness in solving the problems that students find.The goal of this research was to examine the contribution of traditional games to the academic achievement of students in primary education. The findings reveal that positive attitude towards traditional games greatly influences academic achievement of primary schools students studying in Dharwad District of Karnataka State.

Based on the finding of the present study in this book the investigator presents suggestions for further research in the area also mentioned. So that this book helps in other research scholars too.
