Social Work Methods in CSR IMPLEMENTATION

Unique features of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in India have distinguished it from the CSR practices from almost rest of the world. This has enabled and strengthened an eco-system in the country where corporate contribute as one of the important formal pillars of the social development and its various attributes. The need was felt to further strengthen the implementation of the CSR projects by way of creating awareness as well as scientifically reflecting upon the importance and relevance of the Methods of Social Work Profession in it. This book is based on my Doctoral research study carried out at the School of Social Work, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi under the guidance of Prof. Gracious Thomas.

This book presents scientific analysis and results of adopting social work methods in CSR implementation with particular reference to the relevance of the method of the Social Welfare Administration.  The book presents conceptual understanding of social work profession and its methods, Social Welfare Administration as a method of Social Work, concepts and definitions of the CSR, provisions related to CSR under the Companies Act, 2013 as per Section 135 and Schedule VII of the Act, trends in CSR expenditure. A comprehensive review of literature on CSR is also a key attraction. Apart from legal and regulatory paradigm of CSR, various voluntary guidelines, codes and standards relevant to CSR are also part of the analysis. Six case studies of the automobile sector companies are part of this book. The framework of POSDCORBEF under the method of Social Welfare Administration has been examined and its strengths, weaknesses, and relevance have been presented in accordance with the research methodology and analysis. Major findings have been summarized and pertinent recommendations have been given towards the end.
