RICE PLANT AN EVALUATION GUIDELINE

The present book “Rice Plant – An Evaluation Guideline” is composed specially for students of Agriculture and Botany who are involved in practical handling and research on rice crop. This book comprises the basic understanding of the rice plant as a whole, the morphology of the seed, leaf, stem, flowering, floral biology, anatomy of leaf, stem, root, awn, different traits useful in the characterization of varieties, methods of biochemical assessment, etc. It will provide the guideline for evaluating rice varieties for various traits. Each topic is precisely written and briefly explained point-wise so that students can easily grasp the concepts very quickly. Rice is considered the “Global grain” as it is the most consumed cereal grain worldwide, which makes it a crop of priority from research point of view. The main issue we focused in this book was the difficulties we very often face while conducting research on this crop. Moreover, all these information are hardly available in a single book. While preparing this manuscript the original information regarding the topics has been collected from the already published materials, websites etc. which were available in a fragmented manner.

Although this book is prepared as a ready reckoner for researchers, undergraduate and postgraduate students can also follow this book to get comprehensive knowledge of the morphology and anatomy of the crop. The diagram of different plant parts along with the anatomy of various parts of the plant will help in understanding the crop very easily. The floral biology and crossing technique described in the book will be helpful for the students while practicing hybridization. Different characterization methods along with the growing stage at which the data should be collected will help the researchers to get appropriate data.
