Kerala is the diabetes capital of India with a prevalence of diabetes as high as 20% ─ double the national average of 8%. In a large multi-center study involving nearly 20,000 subjects, the prevalence of diabetes in Thiruvananthapuram was 17% compared to 15% in Hyderabad and New Delhi, 4% in Nagpur and 3% in Dibrugarh. Pathanamthitta district of Kerala has the maximum number of diabetics -16% of the people in the district suffer from the disease.
This book was conceived by the author, Mr. K. R. Prabhurajan to help others like the author himself, who suffer from diabetes and also to extend his philanthropic efforts further by starting a Diabetes Support club in the state of Kerala. The idea is to establish testing and monitoring centers through the club that will help people suffering from diabetes to do fasting blood sugar (FBS) tests and Postprandial Blood Sugar tests (PPBS) at a nominal cost. The club will operate as a not-for-profit organization so all the income generated will be utilized to support and provide the facilities and services. The data collected could be used by health departments and medical research organisations to help develop better medical advances that can detect and cure type2 diabetes. Furthermore, good diet and healthy living advice can be shared through the clubs to its members.
Currently the author is the founder and the managing trustee of a charity called Diamond Citizen Welfare Trust which caters to improving the lives and living conditions of Adivasis in Wayanad. More details as below:
