PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS OF URBAN WATER SUPPLY IN KARNATAKA: A CASE STUDY OF BELAGAVI CITY

Urban water supply is a critical aspect of development and well-being of cities. The provision of safe and reliable drinking water is essential for public health, economic growth, and sustainable development. In this context, the state of Karnataka, India, faces several challenges in meeting the growing demand for water in its urban areas.

Public Private Partnership (PPP) has emerged as innovative approach to address the challenges faced by the public sector in providing urban services. The implementation of PPP projects has gained considerable importance in recent years mainly due to the lack of public resources and the increasing demand for better infrastructure and services. PPPs have been used to deliver a wide range of public services, including water supply, waste management, transportation, and healthcare.

This book examines the effectiveness of PPP in water supply system of Belagavi City in Karnataka state, which is one of the fast-growing cities. The city is facing several challenges in providing safe and reliable water supply to its residents. To address these challenges, the Belagavi City Corporation has entered into a PPP arrangement with a private sector for the provision of water supply services.

The book examines the various aspects of the PPP arrangement in the water supply system of Belagavi City.
