“Anytime banking and anywhere banking” is the new truism in the banking sector. Rapid advancements in fields of information technology have resulted in the emergence of new business models, diversified financial products and services and new service delivery channels. Many of these new developments have been duly incorporated in the “Modern Bank Management” course of the B.Com programme.
This book is written keeping in mind the requirements of III Semester B.Com. Students of Mangalore University. However, the book is not restricted only to the syllabus, but provides a comprehensive coverage of the topics that would enable the readers to understand the selected contents without any ambiguity.
The main objective of this book is to provide a single and simple textbook, covering the entire new syllabus with appropriate information. The book has been carefully prepared to incorporate all that is relevant from the examination point of view. Model questions for each chapter are given at the end to help the students prepare for examination.
I do not claim any originality in the subject-matter of this book. I have made profuse use of many standard books that I have gained knowledge from over the years and have used information available in the official websites of various institutions and organizations including government departments. I express my profound gratitude to the authors of these books and editors of these websites.
The enthusiastic response from the students and teachers to my earlier books and the generous appreciation of my efforts and the constant persuasion from the teaching fraternity have motivated me to write this book.
I sincerely thank Dr S. Udayashankar, M.A., Ph.D. Former, Head, Department of Economics, and Dean Faculty of Arts, St Aloysius College, Mangaluru who was my first Head of the Department and for writing the foreword for this book. I still remember and cherish his work ethic and his commitment towards the subject.
A special word of thanks to Rev Dr Praveen Martis SJ, Principal, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) for his constant encouragement and guidance in my academic endeavours.
I am extremely grateful to my daughter Anora for going through the draft and also being available whenever I sought clarifications in the language.
I place on record my sincere thanks to M/s. InSc Publishing House, for motivating me to write this book and publishing the same.
This book would never have been written but for the support, encouragement and cooperation of my wife Anita and daughter Anoma. I am also thankful to all my colleagues and friends for their best wishes.
Suggestions and comments for improvement of this book will be gratefully appreciated
