The idea for this book, “Mastering Periodontology Viva – From Basics to Chairside,” was born out of a simple yet strong observation during my teaching career – I saw many students struggling during viva examinations and at the chairside, despite having studied the subject in depth. While standard textbooks like Carranza’s Clinical Periodontology provide comprehensive knowledge, students often find it challenging to extract and present that knowledge in a concise, exam-oriented manner.
This book has been carefully designed to bridge that gap. It simplifies vast concepts into structured viva questions and answers, organized chapter-wise, while also including quick revision tables and chairside clinical questions. The aim is to make the subject easier to recall during viva voce, practical exams, and clinical postings.
I have also included chairside Q&A that cover history taking, diagnosis, investigations, surgical steps, instruments, sterilization, patient instructions, and emergency management – topics that students frequently face in daily clinical practice.
My vision is to provide a one-stop companion for undergraduates, interns, and even postgraduates, to prepare with confidence for viva exams and to handle chairside discussions effectively.
I sincerely hope that this book not only helps students excel in examinations but also develops their confidence in approaching real patients with clarity and competence.
