Andaman and Nicobar Islands was a part of India during the British period; most of the prisoners were brought from different places in India after independence, so many community members came here for a job opportunity. After that, most of the people settled here, but unfortunately, most of the people forgot their culture, tradition, language, and traditional occupation. The study reflects the Telugu fisherfolk community of Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh and their traditional fishing techniques, as well as how they changed from traditional to modern fishing technology. Their socio-economic conditions are also reflected in this study.
The main purpose of the study was to show that the traditional fishing system is on the endangered traditional occupation list all over the world due to modern fishing technology and also that the younger generations are mostly prepared to use modern fishing technology. In this regard, the traditional fishing techniques are preserved as a main aim of the study.
