A LABORATORY MANUAL ON B. SC. (HONOURS) ZOOLOGY

Gauhati University has introduced the CBCS curriculum at the Under Graduate level from the session 2019-20. A student offering B. Sc. Honours course in ZOOLOGY must complete core courses (14 Papers) in Zoology. Each paper consists of Theory of 4 Credits (60 marks) and Practical of 2 Credits (20 marks). The theory book is available in the market but there is scarcity of practical book especially on CBCS syllabus. In order to help the student community this book is written as per the guidelines of UGC, CBCS syllabus. All the practical manuals are applicable to all Indian University, UG level, especially this book is for the all the University of Assam and West Bengal.

In the Semester I and Semester II the practical syllabus included are taxonomic studies of Non-chordates, Principles of Ecology and taxonomic studies of Chordates are not included in this Laboratory Manual Book since they are non-experimental practicals. Study of Histology (III- Semester), Comparative anatomy of vertebrates (IV- Semester), Evolutionary Biology and Developmental Biology (VI- Semester) are not included in this book since they are non experimental.

This laboratory manual book solely deals with different practicals included in Cell Biology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics. In this edition, I make an effort to introduce the students to the basic protocol and standard method of different practicals. So far possible, utmost care has been taken to include tables and figures with latest information to make the book more practical oriented.

After visiting to different Colleges as an external examiner I felt that protocol of the experiments should be an authentic and unique one. That is the main aim and objectives of this book. I do hope that this Laboratory Manual Book will definitely help to the student community in general and faculty in particular of Assam and West Bengal. Constructive suggestions and comments are seeking from the readers for further improvement of this book will be highly appreciated and thankfully acknowledged.
