The Twenty Point Program(TPP) was launched by the Government of India in 1975. The program was first revised in 1982 and again in 1986. Over the years, the need for restructuring the Program has been felt in the light of our achievements and experiences, as well as the introduction of several new policies and program by the Government of India. Although the TPP has been in existence for the last 30 years, it is still relevant today as the desired objectives of eradication of poverty and improvement in the quality of life of the common man have yet to be completely attained. TPP-1986 has now been restructured in 2006, keeping in view the challenges of the 21st Century with particular reference to the ongoing process of economic reforms, liberalization and globalization of the Indian Economy. The program and schemes under the TPP-2006 are in harmony with the priorities contained in the National Common Minimum Program (NCMP). It renews the nation’s commitment to eradicating poverty, raising productivity, reducing income inequalities and removing social and economic disparities.
